I finally finish repairing our fence
Yup, it’s done.. for this year anyway.
Hopefully the work we’ve put in now will mean it will stand for a few more years, and won’t need much maintenance.
I did this myself, partly as a cost saving exercise; but also to prove to myself that I could do this sort of thing.
I’ve never been very confident making or building things, DIY is a bit of a challenge for me.
I get frustrated easily, and make all the mistakes!
I’ve picked up a few tricks from watching experienced tradesfolk work, and finally have an inkling of how to approach these sort of tasks.
From watching tutorials on Youtube and reading others people’s stories on forums I managed to learn a little about fencing and decided to have a go.
The good thing about learning new things is that usually you end up learning unexpected bonus things. I felled a half dozen small trees (never used a chainsaw before) and I learned some great information about drainage and small scale landscaping.
I may use this knowledge to do some of this type of work myself in the future, but importantly it allows me to feel like I’m asking the right questions when tradesmen or contractors are giving me quotes.
Anyway, I ramble..
I’m happy with the result; it’s not even close to the job I’d expect from a contractor, but it has character and memories so it’s all good 🙂
