Preparing the garden

Mar 14, 2018Growing in the garden, In the garden

Planting and growing begins outside for another year.

It’s that time of year again!

Up-until now, Dawny and I have really only grown flowers in our garden and tried to  maintain the mature shrubs and bushes.

The garden although mature, has been neglected over the last 10 years.

We have decided that we will make a serious effort at growing food to eat, so we’ve started making our space.

This year we’re going to grow in containers so we can control the soil and hopefully manage the birds and beasties a bit easier.

All going well next year we will expand to use more of the garden.

Neither of us have much experience, so we’re learning as we go, thank goodness for YouTube content creators – I’ve been cramming over the winter months and I’m keen to put theory into practice, hopefully with some tasty results.

First up this year, we’ve rescued the plastic greenhouse and got some potatoes chitting.

Desiree for main crop, and some Arran Pilots for earlies.

Update

As I was writing this, i heard a crash from the garden – it’s very windy here this evening – I went out and sure enough the wind had knocked all the seed potatoes to the ground 😯

I have rescued them, they now have a nice place in a south-facing window for a couple of weeks 🙂
